Ash Wednesday and Lent
For many centuries the church has set aside the period of 40 days (not including Sundays) leading up to Easter as a time devoted to fasting and focused prayer in preparation for the celebration of Christ’s resurrection from death. We call this 40-day period the season of Lent. To mark the beginning of Lent, we will be hosting a special Ash Wednesday service on February 26th at 6:00am in the sanctuary. This is a service of thoughtful, solemn self-examination and repentance, in which ashes are imposed on the foreheads of the penitent as a symbol and reminder of their mortality. If you are able please plan to set aside this hour before heading off to work or school so that we can begin the season of Lent together in humble contrition before our Lord.
